The Jesters Bike Ride off to Round 4
Sunday September 16th - 8 am
Article written by Kim Fletcher for Pattaya Mail (July 2001)

The Annual Sponsored Bike Ride has become one of the most popular events on the Jesters Charity Drive for the Fountain of Life.

Started by Paul Baker in 1998 it was a two-legged (no pun intended) affair that started on Friday in Chantabury with an overnight stop in Rayong, and the following morning early heading towards Pattaya finishing at Delaney’s (for those of you with long memories will remember that’s what Shenanigans used to be called). A complete set of 7 riders took off to master the just under 200km bike ride distance herded together by Jeff on his Harley.

1999 was a somewhat shorter affair with the motto “fun” in mind. “Only” 50 kilometers (plus a few odd ones) separated the start, “Ronnie’s Camel Bar” in Ban Chang, from the finish line, the Royal Cliff Resort in Pattaya. 40 bikers attacked the distance more or less gracefully depending on fitness level and stamina and raised a total of 200,000 Baht for the Fountain of Life. Paul’s only decision was to start and finish the event the following year at a hotel without the word ‘cliff’ in it.

The year 2000 brought us yet another cycling tour setup, start and finishing line at the Amari Orchid Resort with a loop of either 25 or 50 kilometer around the Siam Country Club. This family type event more than doubled the participant numbers (93) and never has there been a greater time distance from the first to the last rider in. A record amount of 470’000 Baht

was raised by this sponsored bike ride alone.

This year the start of the ride has been moved to the wonderful venue of the Siam Bayshore Resort in South Pattaya. With a huge leap forward being made in that the event will be sponsored this year firstly by “Thai Thanakit Insurance”, who will be providing all the refreshments, route signs, medical facilities, etc; and by “Coats” who will provide each rider with a commemorative T-Shirt. Like last year, there will again be two different routes, one of 25 kilometers and one of 50 kilometers. The magic date: Sunday, September 16th – 8 am.

Sign up of 300 Baht per rider will be at the Siam Bayshore Resort, Beach Road. All riders will be asked to wear their sponsored T-Shirt to show support for the sponsors, and, although 300 Baht can come out of sponsorship, Baht 300 must be paid on the day. So come prepared.

Entry forms and sponsorship forms can be picked up from Shenanigans, Tahitian Queen, The Blue Parrot, Sixties Bar, Dusit Resort Fitness Center and the Siam Bayshore Resort or download the forms from this website. Click here.

So everybody, what a great way to get fit and raise money for the kids. Get on your bike and ride, or for those of you less energetic, find somebody who is riding and sponsor him/her/them.
