The Center takes children between
the ages of three and 15 years from areas with
very poor living conditions. In many cases the
children have been abused or have sniffed glue.
For a variety of reasons their families are not
inclined to give them any type of education.
The purpose of the Center is to
provide the children with a place where they can
spend a few hours in a peaceful and organized
educational environment. Each morning around 9
a.m. (except on weekends) the staff pick up the
children from their dwellings and take them to
FOL where they stay until 3 p.m., then they are
taken home again.
The Center gives the children schooling
and other related activities to try and make their
lives as normal as possible. It caters a lunch
and gives them a snack before they leave.

Volunteers from the local expatriate
community work at the Center every Wednesday from
1 p.m. to 3 p.m. teaching the children different
"profitable' crafts. The most successful
of these has been the Greetings Card project.
Cards are produced for every occasion including
Christmas and Easter. The children make the cards
from recycled materials.
The lack of previous school experience
is evident from the children's poor co-ordination
when cutting, pasting, colouring, as well as a
limited imagination when creating on their own.
All of the children need a lot of
love and support. What we do at the Center is
not as important as just being there for them.
They count on us, they wait for us and at the
end of the day they are proud of what they have
accomplished with our help. We cannot help but
grow very attached to them.
1. Voluteers are always needed at
the Center.
2. Buying our cards and craft items help to support
the kids and their families.
3. Donations are always welcome.
